Theo H Veldsman

Theo is regarded as one of the thought leaders in South Africa, and beyond, with respect to people management and the psychology of work.  Over many years he has demonstrated his ongoing ability to pro-actively identify emerging people and leadership needs and arrive at fit-for-purpose, innovative solutions that are simultaneously theoretically and practically sound.  He has a proven ability to move seamlessly between theory and practice, and vice versa. 

Theo holds a Ph D Industrial Psychology. He is a registered Industrial Psychologist and Research Psychologist and accredited HRM Practioner.  He prefers to call himself a Work Psychologist. Theo has extensive research and development, as well as consulting experience over the past 35 years in the fields of strategy formulation and implementation; strategic organisational change; organisational (re)design; team building; leadership/management and strategic people/ talent management. He has consulted/ consults with many leading South African companies, and organisations overseas, in the above areas in the roles of Advisor, Expert, Coach/ Mentor. 

He is the author of nearly 200 technical/ consulting reports/articles covering the abovementioned areas of which about 40 are accredited articles.  He is the author of two books, and has contributed 17 book chapters. Last year in October a comprehensive thought leadership book dealing with future-fit leaders as an organisational capacity and intervention - co-edited with Andrew Johnson, CLO of Eskom - was published.  

He is highly sought after speaker, and does numerous management and professional presentations and seminars at a national and international level (on average 4-5 presentations a year), apart from inhouse organisational presentations. 
Until December 2016 he was Professor, and Head of Department (since 2008), of the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management (IPPM), Faculty of Management, University of Johannesburg. The Department is independently regarded as one of the top, if not the top department in its field in SA and beyond. He was appointed Visiting Professor in the Department as from 2017, as well as Extra-ordinary Professor at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. 
He has led the profession of Psychology and Industrial Psychology nationally as President on several occasions.  He has been awarded Fellowship status by the Society of Industrial and Organisational Psychology of SA (SIOPSA). He was given an Award for Life Long Achievement by the SA Board for People Practices (SABPP) in 2012. In 2016 IPPM made also made a Life Long Achievement to him.
