After 2 years with the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Matija joined PLIVA's Human Resources department in 1996 as an Associate and later as Manager for Management and Organizational Development. Since 2001 she has acted as head of Human Resources in Croatia and held the position of Director of Human Resources for PLIVA CROATIA Ltd. In 2004. she was appointed as Senior director of Human Resources in PLIVA – Research Institute. In 2006 she became HR Director, GSK R&D Centre Zagreb and HR Director for Adriatic region, GSK Pharmaceuticals. In the following years, she assumed HR responsibility for different regions in Pharmaceutical division and in Consumer HealthCare division, gathering significant international exposure and experience. In 2013, as a process owner for time and absence management processes, Matija participated in a global HR project aimed at digitalization of HR function. In 2014 Matija moved to Croatia insurance, assuming HR Director position with the priority goal to support transformation of the Company. In 2021 Matija was appointed a member of the Management Board of Zagrebački Holding Ltd., a utility company 100% owned by the City of Zagreb, to support the stopping of negative trends in business, the stabilization of the company in operational and financial sense, the reduction of costs, and the achievement of improved financial results and the sustainability of the company. Matija participated in several training programs in the field of human resources management, leadership, finance and strategic management.
