Join us for the webinar in the framework of the BECOME Project titled "From Plastic Waste to Invisible Pollution: Micro- and Nanoplastics in the Environment – Sources, Risks, and Detection Methods" on November 10 at 11:00 CET, online.
Plastic waste does not simply disappear. Over time, it breaks down into micro- and nanoplastics that can be found in soil, rivers, oceans, and many other parts of the environment. Although these particles are invisible to the eye, they have become a major environmental concern and present new challenges for both waste management and the transition towards a circular economy.
This lecture will provide an overview of the main sources of micro- and nanoplastics, how they enter and move through the environment, and the potential impacts they may have on ecosystems and human health. It will also introduce the analytical methods currently used to detect and characterise these particles, with a focus on the opportunities and limitations of different approaches. By linking plastic waste, environmental pollution, and analytical science, the lecture aims to show why understanding and monitoring micro- and nanoplastics is increasingly important for sustainable waste management.
