The BECOME project’s Learning Community meetings (Slovenia, IEDC) continued this week with an example of circular economy from Donat. Interesting case was presented of an almost closed circle of recycling PET packaging where Donat in cooperation with a recycling company collects its own bottles and recovers most of the PET material put on the market, in the production of rPET. This unique technic is excellent case example for other bottling companies in the region. LCA conducted by Donat showed that using rPET is environmentally most friendly option, better than using virgin PET, glace or any packaging material tested. The customer survey shows that customers do have modest confidence in PET materials fearing microplastics and believing that glace packaging is the healthiest option. To give customers transparent and proven information, Donat has performed research which showed that there is no fear of microplastics in their products.
