We regret to inform of passing away of Dr. Erhard Busek. Dr. Erhard Busek was one of the most well-known European politicians and one of Europe’s leading experts in the region. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Austria from 1991-95 and was appointed as Special Representative of the Austrian Government on EU-Enlargement in 2000. He was also Deputy-Mayor of Vienna, Minister for Science and Research and Minister of Education. From January 2002 until June 2008 Dr. Busek served as Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, the final person to hold the position.
Dr. Busek has received numerous recognition and awards for his work. He has assumed high political positions in Austria as well as those in educational institutions and bodies in Austria and European Union. He has been visiting professor at many Universities and invited speaker at many international conferences and events. He has also received honorary doctorates at several universities. IEDC – Bled School of Management awarded him with Doctor Honoris Causa in 2007 for his outstanding contribution to integration of knowledge and leadership development for a better world.
Dr. Busek has been a President of IEDC Supervisory Board since 2008 and his understanding of the role of education in general and management development in particular provided ground for the involvement of the IEDC-Bled School of Management in different projects aimed at the development of leadership capabilities in both business and government sectors in South Eastern Europe. Dr. Busek and the IEDC-Bled School of Management shared a strong belief that business schools have an important role to play in leadership development for a better world.
